leading music and dance institution in Dubai
The piano is one of the oldest musical instruments. It is also one of the most popular ones played by musicians all over the world. Since its invention by Bartolemeo Cristofori, thousands of people have dedicated their life to master the immaculate skills of piano playing.

Although a lot of people worldwide have amazing piano-playing skills, there have only been a handful of pianists who are considered masters of this art. Below are the top 3 greatest pianists of all time, collated from various sources:

1. Sergei Rachaminov. Born in 1873 in Russia, Rachaminov graduated from the Moscow Conservatorium, in the same class as composer Alexander Scriabin. In 1917, he left Russia to embark on a career as a touring pianist in order to support himself and his family. Prior to his death in 1943, he became a US citizen. Among his noteworthy and classic compositions is the Piano Concerto No 2 - often voted the most popular piece of classical music of all time.

2. Vladimir Horowitz. Horowitz, also born in Russia (in 1903), sailed for the West when he was just 21 years old. This classical pianist is often described as a “tornado unleashed from the steppes”. Horowitz gained international recognition for his performances of Romantic piano repertoire and the classic piece, Scarlatti.

3. Alfred Cortot. Cortot was a French pianist and professor at the Conservatoire de Paris. Due to his impeccable mastery, landmark recordings, and meticulous editions of the lyrical works of Chopin, Schumann, and Debussy he was widely known as a “poet of the piano”.
