Types Of Steel Used In Buildings

When it comes to construction and building companies, the use of steel is very important. It is considered as one of the most basic materials used in constructing a building. However, there are actually different types of steel that you need to know in order to ensure that you are using the right type for your building purposes.

Basically, there are at least three types of steel introduced in the market today. As you may know, steels are made from alloys of iron and carbon. And depending on the amount or percentage of carbon in steel, it is defined into three types shown below.

- Mild steel. The percentage of carbon present in this type of steel is 0.25%.
- Medium carbon steel. The percentage of carbon present in this type of steel is 0.25% - 0.45%.
- High carbon steel. The percentage of carbon present in this type of steel is 0.45% - 1.50%.

If you add more metals to these combinations, you can also produce another type of steel such as stainless and /or high speed.
