Weeds That Thrive In Illinois

Property owners in Illinois are also not safe from weeds that can grow in their yard or garden. Below are some of the most common species of weeds that can be found in Illinois:

Clover. Clovers are 3 dark leaflets that develop white blossoms. They are low-growing weeds that have creeping stems which root at the nodes.

Dandelions.
One of the most common species of weeds found all over the world, dandelions are long, bright yellow blossoms followed by “puffball” seed carriers. Dandelion structure is made of a leafless stem of varying length and it grows from the center of prostrate rosette.

Thistle. Thistles are tall and bushy clusters of spiky stems and leaves that bear big purple flowers.

Wild violets. Although they may look pretty, wild violets are still weeds. They have heart-shaped leaves and have small blue violet to lilac or white flowers that resemble pansies. They are low-growing weeds with creeping stems which root at the nodes.

Crabgrass.
These are light green, flat leaves that point outward. They usually form a large clump or mat with stems that branch out of a central star-shaped center hub.
