Trusted lawn care specialists in Illinois
Illinois is a state found in the Midwestern part of the USA. The state has a climate that varies widely throughout the year. Illinois’ northernmost and southernmost extremes and mid-continental situation has a tropical continental climate with hot, humid summers and cold winters. The southernmost part of the state, however, borders on a humid subtropical climate with more moderate winters.

There are certain types of perennials however that would thrive and flourish in any part of Illinois. These flowers include:

Virginia bluebells - Virginia bluebells are spring flowers that sport pink buds which blossom into pink-purple blooms. They thrive well under the sun or shade and each plant grows 2 feet high and wide. Bluebells easily reseed themselves; as such, a colony can grow larger over the years.

Hardy geraniums - Geranium x cantabrigiense are larger than other hardy geraniums. They have compact foliage and apple-scented spicy perfume make the plant perfect for borders. Hardy geraniums flourish in full sun and require little water.

Panicle hydrangeas – The cloudlike panicle hydrangeas are specifically recommended for the Midwest because of their cold tolerance. This type of hydrangea is best planted in or as hedges, borders or as a garden focal point.

Sedums – This type of flower is easy to grow, stingy with water yet rich in texture and shape. There are various species of sedums, the most popularly planted in and around Illinois include Autumn Joy, Meteor, Purple Emperor, and Vera Jameson.
